Hello Everyone,
Let me start with first thanking my employer (HyperCITY Retail India Ltd.) for conducting a LEAP training program, led by Mr. Suresh Srinivasan from Potentia.
During the course of the seminar there was a very interesting question asked by trainer Suresh to the audience, "How many of you think that you are not successful", I could see most of the hands up in the air, as if everyone was proud for answering this question as "YES, I am UnSuccessful", including ME.
Even before Suresh could continue, it struck me "Am I really UnSuccessful", or is it that my "Desires" are unlimited.
He continued "Name some people who you think are Successful”, various names came out from the likes of Sachin Tendulkar to Ratan Tata to Bill Gates to Mark Zuckerberg.
He picked up Sachin Tendulkar as an example and asked us a question "Can Sachin Drink Pepsi standing between Public (ex. Inorbit Mall)". People told no as he is a brand ambassador for Coke these days. Suresh Continued "Can you have it" answer obviously was "YES".
Next series of questions from Suresh were "Can Sachin walk down his house and have a Pani Puri at a stall next to his house”, "Can Sachin talk freely to anyone any time", "Can he drive his car keeping windows open and enjoy the weather" answer are NO to these, Suresh continued, but can you do it answer was a "YES we can"
He continued “With Success you lose Freedom to lot many things, if you cannot enjoy your life as a free human being then what is the use of being Successful", this was a very thought provoking statement.
He continued further "Write down that one thing which when you achieve, you will be successful" we all took our time and wrote what can to our mind. I am sure you want to know what I wrote, but that is not important.
Suresh asked some people to share what they had written, I realized some people were able to write and some were not, I was surprised to see that some people don't even know what when achieved will make them successful and still running in “RAT RACE”.
"When I become Head of my department"
"The Day when I drive my Kid with his wife in Porsche"
"When I have a bank balance of Rs. 4 Crores"
"When I have a flat at Bandra Band Stand"
Later in the day I tried to search dictionary meaning of Success
Oxford Dictionary Success is "The accomplishment of an aim or purpose"
The Free Dictionary Success is "The achievement of something desired, planned, or attempted"
Achieving something that is desired, planned, attempted is Success, I planned to buy a Car I brought it Successful, I planned to get a new PS2 for my Kid brought it Successful, Planned to go to a Movie went Successful.
This brings so much peace to you, I was free from “RAT RACE” hearing this. We all are successful some many times in a day itself, but still we say that “I AM UNSUCCESSFUL”,
There was a dialogue in movie Bawarchi “किसी बड़ी ख़ुशी के इंतज़ार में , हम यह छोटी छोटी खुशियों के मौके खो देते है” (English translation: In waiting for a big happy moment ... we miss these small small happy moments) so true this is.
I would request you to just take sometime and think from this prospective and look if Life looks beautiful or not, I am sure it will.
I think I have got my answer to what is Success, I hope you too have got it.
